TIME OF MUSIC, A TIME OF MAGIC
by Joseph L. S. Terrell
2004 Reissue
Edition by Bella Rosa Books
6" x 9" Trade Paperback, 226 pages
Book Description
A literary novel about one weekend in the life of a dance band musician,
a bass player, who has accepted his own self-destruction through alcohol.
It takes place in a Southeastern beach town just when the big bands were
going out of style.
From the Back Cover
Danny McCullers was one of the people who made the music just when the
Big Bands were going out of style. He loved the life that set him and
his fellow musicians a bit apart from the rest of the world. His world
was on the bandstand with the colored lights going around, the horns hitting
it together, the laughing women dressed in beautiful clothes. It was hotel
rooms and all-night cafes and long automobile rides over deserted highways,
and, always, there had to be the whisky. But at only thirty-one, his world
was deteriorating fast, in a haze of alcohol.
At the end of summer, in a small beach town where the band was playing
a one-night stand, Danny came to realize that his life might be differentthat
he still might make it different. He had only to make a choice.
Critic Review
"Terrell's genius is displayed in his characterization, not only
of Danny McCullers, but of his helpmates too...A TIME OF MUSIC- is in
the category of "I just couldn't put it down."
