ONLY ECHOES REMAIN
Author: Dody Myers

Amanda's life journey, which as a college girl had seemed so uncomplicated, now presents choices she had never contemplated.

Dody Myers concludes the third in her Echoes Trilogy with her most powerful story yet as she weaves a tale of one woman's painful yet triumphant journey toward self-discovery.

At the center of this story is Amanda, born in the North during the turmoil of the Civil War, engaged to Michael, a young visionary endeavoring to transform his father's burned-out Southern plantation into a resort hotel.

Just as Michael begins to realize his dream, fate intervenes. Tragedy strikes A major hurricane destroys all he has built thus far, leaving him with both the rubble of the storm's aftermath and his shattered dreams.

Amanda has fought to get a college education only to find her future dictated by the rigid conventions of her time. Michael, as most men in the 1800s, considers her role as his wife to be as described in the Bible: "It is not meant for man to be alone. I will build a helper for him." (Geneses 2:18). She should aspire to be no more than that while raising and educating their children.

But Amanda yearns for more; she does not want to live her life only through her husband. Then, while working as a volunteer with the newly formed Red Cross during the aftermath of the Johnstown Flood she becomes friends with Lavinia Dock (1858/1956) the first woman to transform nursing into a respected scientific profession. Now, Amanda's life, which as a carefree college girl had seemed so uncomplicated, presented another option, a choice she had never contemplated.

ONLY ECHOES REMAIN is a powerful tale of love and choices, betrayal and hurdles, as these two strong-willed people, deeply in love, must overcome the mores of 19th century America to find a compromise while their echoing past directs their decisions.
